How To Take Root Cuttings
Root Cuttings make an excellent way to increase the number of plants. They can be taken in the middle of winter when not much else is happening in the garden.

- Phlox
- Mint,
- Japanese Anemones
- Primulas
- Oriental Poppies
How To take root cuttings
- Dig up a clump of the plant taking care not to damage the roots.
- Take a root and with a sharp knife, cut strips of cuttings 5-6 cm long. Take the cuttings and place on a gritty compost with a thin covering of compost. Water regularly taking care to avoid waterlogged soil.
- Keep somewhere relatively warm inside until the first signs of shoots are seen. They can be hardened off in a cold frame before being potted on and planted outside.
