As the song goes ‘Oh! the Yellow Rose of Texas …..’ but what variety of rose would you choose? Well for me top of the pops is still that old 1940’s classic ‘Peace’ accepted by many as the all time top Hybrid Tea rose.
There is a special World Peace rose garden in memory of Martin Luther King ‘I have a dream’.

‘I never promised you a rose garden’ but if I had I would have included this ‘Graham Thomas’ old English shrub with its intense fragrance and tightly packed petals.
Botanica’s pocket Roses lists and photographs over 2000 roses and nurseries probably have other varieties to select from.

Tips for selecting roses to buy include choosing a variety that has been bred for disease resistance and choose a plant that hasn’t been in a container so long that it is pot bound with the roots twisting round on themselves.
