{"id":9426,"date":"2011-01-22T03:19:25","date_gmt":"2011-01-22T10:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/?p=9426"},"modified":"2011-01-22T03:19:25","modified_gmt":"2011-01-22T10:19:25","slug":"sudden-oak-death-bleeding-canker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/gardening\/pests-problems\/sudden-oak-death-bleeding-canker\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudden Oak Death &#038; Bleeding Canker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Beware of Phytophthora<\/strong> ramorum and Phytophthora kernoviaea couple of fungus-like pathogens which affect a range of trees, shrubs and other plants.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ramorum blight or &#8216;sudden oak death&#8217; is one of the Phytophthora pathogens causing concern in UK woods and forests.<\/li>\n<li> Bark canker on oak trees and heavy leaf infestation on the understorey of rhododendrons has led to the death or removal of 4 million trees.<\/li>\n<li> Viburnums and Japanese larch are also susceptible to the disease which is in danger of spreading still further.<\/li>\n<li> Bleeding canker is a problem for 500,000 Horse Chestnut trees.The inner bark  under  bleeding patches is usually  mottled brown-orange and dead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These diseases, relatively new to the UK, have been brought in on stock from Asia, Europe and Western USA.
