Disinfect seed trays and use fresh compost.<\/li>\n<li>Keep part used compost in sealed bags.<\/li>\n<li>Use new pots on seeds that are prone to the problem like begonias and brassicas.<\/li>\n<li>A copper based fungicide watered on to the compost was the traditional cure or prevention.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cheshunts compound <\/strong>or products specifically for the purpose are sold at garden centres.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Can be used on all seedlings whether edible or non-edible.<\/li>\n<li>Easy to use, dilute and water the solution onto compost before sowing.<!--more--><\/li>\n<li>Repeat watering after the emergence of the seedlings.<\/li>\n<li>For transplanting, water seedlings with the solution before and after the transplanting.<\/li>\n<li>Suitable for organic gardening.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Other Damping Off Tips<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>There is no cure for plants that already have damping off<\/li>\n<li>Prevent the problem by providing good air circulation.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your soil mix is light and fast-draining.<\/li>\n<li>Plant seeds so that the soil surface is near the top of the container to insure proper air circulation.<\/li>\n<li>Sow seeds thinly to prevent over crowding which can lead to humid, moist conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Water in the morning from below to avoid overwatering seedlings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As gardeners old and young contemplate a new season of growing plants from seed we look at &#8216;Damping Off&#8217; What is Damping Off The number 1 enemy of gardeners raising plants from seed.
