Aka Sweet Basil,   with many other basil types including Sweet Genovese, Thai basil, Lemon basil and Mexican spice basil there is a good range to grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sow From Seed<\/strong><br \/>\nIn May or June fill small pots with moist multi-purpose compost. I use 3&#8243; plastic pots.<br \/>\nSprinkle seeds thinly on the surface. About 10-12 seeds per pot.<br \/>\nCover lightly with fine compost or vermiculite.<br \/>\nKeep on a warm windowsill and seedlings will appear in about 2 weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Growing Onward<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter 4-6 weeks the seedlings can be planted into individual pots.<br \/>\nThen leave on the windowsill or harden off for outdoor planting<br \/>\nTreat the Basil as an annual.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outdoor Basil<\/strong><br \/>\nPlant out in June or July in a sunny sheltered spot.<br \/>\nThey make good fragrant container plants.<br \/>\nFeed with a general purpose liquid feed and water little and often.<br \/>\nPinch out the growing tip to get a bushy plant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Using Basil<\/strong><br \/>\nLeave the stems on pick and come again plants taking  a few leaves each time.<br \/>\nGrow several plants if you need large quantities for Pesto or other culinary uses.<br \/>\nThe seeds can be used to flavour a drink.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Credits<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/environmental-gardening\/a-healing-garden\/\">Basil<\/a> has medicinal and calming properties.<br \/>\nPhoto by Marmot on flickr<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=2283&amp;awinaffid=81944&amp;clickref=&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thompson-morgan.com\/plants1\/search.html?section=all&amp;search=&lt;b&gt;Basil&lt;\/b&gt;\"> Seed suppliers<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fragrant and sweet tasting Basil is an easy to grow, popular herb.
