{"id":4886,"date":"2013-07-20T01:11:22","date_gmt":"2013-07-20T08:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/?p=4886"},"modified":"2013-07-17T03:38:19","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T10:38:19","slug":"colourful-climbers-and-creepers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/flowers\/colourful-climbers-and-creepers\/","title":{"rendered":"Colourful Climbers and Creepers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Late at night when sleeping  poison ivy comes a-creeping.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2551\/3940924752_e53ce2df20.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As Autumn beckons I thought it worth reviewing the top climbers and creepers for that startling colour that encourage passers buy to stop and gawp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virginia Creeper<\/strong> Parthenocissus quinquefolia is a large-leafed vigorous grower with brilliant orange and scarlet leaves in autumn.<br \/>\nParthenocissus Veitchii \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcBoston Ivy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 from the same family is a vigorous self clinging vine also with rich crimson and scarlet leaves in autumn.<\/p>\n<p>Vitis coignetiae  <strong>Crimson Glory grape vine<\/strong> with green leaves turning crimson and scarlet in autumn with purple fruits.<br \/>\nVitis \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcBrandt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 another hardy vine growing up to 25 feet. Large deep purple leaves and bunches of purple grapes in late summer. <\/p>\n<p>Actinidia Kolomikta Chinese Gooseberry has young leaves that are tipped with a distinctive splash of pink and white. Not really an Autumn specimen but a good year round climber.
