{"id":3344,"date":"2012-12-01T02:51:09","date_gmt":"2012-12-01T09:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3344"},"modified":"2012-12-01T09:04:38","modified_gmt":"2012-12-01T16:04:38","slug":"lovage-a-tall-herb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gardenerstips.co.uk\/blog\/flowers\/vegetables-herbs\/lovage-a-tall-herb\/","title":{"rendered":"Lovage a tall Perennial Herb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/bryanto\/4832395955\/\" title=\"LOVAGE by Fool-On-The-Hill, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4113\/4832395955_7a6c2323e7.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"LOVAGE\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>What is Lovage<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lovage is a long lived herbaceous perennial herb that grows up to 4-6 feet tall.<br \/>\nThe leaves are a grey green and architectural in appearance.<br \/>\nLovage flowers yellow in an &#8216;Umbel&#8217; and the seeds that follow can also be eaten or used in bread or as a spice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Uses for Lovage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lovage has a distinct aroma similar to celery but with Indian spice notes.<br \/>\n All parts of Lovage can be eaten and the stems can be used as you would celery.<br \/>\nLovage is made into a wine liqueur and in soups, stews or as a roast vegetable.<br \/>\nLovage is believed to have medicinal properties for sore throats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cropping Lovage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A healthy Lovage (Levisticum officinale) plant can spread in a clump 3 feet wide and such a plant needs space perhaps at the back of a border. One plant can provide all the leaves and stems a family would need.
