But, summer flowering bulbs also play a key role in providing colour and form to the summer garden, especially that period in May June &#8211; in the transition from a spring to summer garden.<\/p>\n<p>These are our favourite Summer Flowering bulbs<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ornamental Onions<\/strong>. These bulbs provide tall spikes of ornamental flowers throughout the border. Even when they have finished flowering their seed heads provide interest and architecture to the border.<\/p>\n<p>Try varieties such as<br \/>\nAllium aftatuenese, Allium Purple Sensation<br \/>\nAllium Schubertii<br \/>\nAllium Giganticum<br \/>\nAllium Christophii<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/hortoris\/4706111973\/\" title=\"Allium by brianpettinger, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4025\/4706111973_dda4e15048.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"388\" alt=\"Allium\"><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Summer Iris<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bearded Iris grow from rhizomes. They like full sun in a well drained spot.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Lillies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lily family includes tuplis, fritillaries and kniphofia. The Lilium species such as Lilium Regale contain more than 80 species and provide a huge range of colour<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crocosmia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crocosmia Lucifer Provides spikes of brilliant red flowers in the middle of the summer. A beautiful plant<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gladioli<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gladioli like a well manured spot with plenty of organic matter. They have brightly coloured blooms in a range of colours. They are not the most subtle of plants, but if you like strong bold planting, dahlias provide a great choice.
