Keep plants in good shape and prune topiary regularly<\/li>\n<li>Remove plants that are not doing well or are finished<\/li>\n<li>For permanent planting such as shrubs remove and replace the top inch or so of soil annually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Seasonal Care<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In hot weather consider shade and check water levels.<\/li>\n<li>Spray leaves early in the morning to avoid scorching.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare and make arrangements to look after pots if you are going on holiday.<\/li>\n<li>In winter protect from plants and pots from frost damage. Move to safety and shelter.<\/li>\n<li>Damp increases the risk of cracking from frost damage. Keep good drainage and keep on the dryside.<\/li>\n<li>Plants in small pots are more vulnerable to problems.<\/li>\n<li>Group pots together for mutual protection.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce height of plant to avoid pots being blown over.<\/li>\n<li>Use bubble wrap, hessian and fleece as needed for frost protection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Pests &amp; disease &amp; General<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean and disinfect pots before reuse.<\/li>\n<li>Start with healthy plants.<\/li>\n<li>Use fresh compost.<\/li>\n<li>Regular care and maintenance including keeping on the lookout for problems<\/li>\n<li>Position pots from wind or consider screening<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Routine Care Neglect spoils many a display.
