Under it&#8217;s branches is a more tender Acer palmatum Japonica var. dissectum &#8216;Inaba-shidare&#8217; or the purple leaved Japanese maple.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Acer japonica by brianpettinger, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/hortoris\/5648993063\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5024\/5648993063_580c5119ae.jpg\" alt=\"Acer japonica\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Cultivation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Acers or Japanese maples like &#8216;Little Princess&#8217; above need a sunny or partially shaded spot which is protected from cold winds.<\/li>\n<li>Acers are hardy shrubs and small trees and like soil that is moist but well-drained.<\/li>\n<li>Acer Japonica are suitable for growing in a large container using John Innes No 3 compost but must be kept well-watered.<\/li>\n<li>In Autumn the leaf colour intensifies before falling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Acer japonica by brianpettinger, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/hortoris\/5648992771\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5029\/5648992771_aee1ac441e.jpg\" alt=\"Acer japonica\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sold as Acer Green Globe above\u00c2\u00a0 but the leaves are not lime green or as serrated as Green Globe.<\/li>\n<li>Tip. Buy when your Acer is in leaf if you want to be sure what you are getting<\/li>\n<li>I saved some money by buying after the leaves had fallen and over all I am not disappointed.
