A showy Purple Peony
Peonies are a herbaceous perennial which can provide many years of excellent flowering. There is a huge choice of colours and flowers. Choose carefully, as they are longed lived and some colours (like above) may not fit into every planting scheme.
Tips for Growing Peonies.
- Planting Time: Plant in September. The roots must not be more than 2cm below soil, otherwise may fail to flower
- Position: Prefer full sun
- Soil: Well drained soil
- Feeding: Generally, need little feeding, unless the soil is very poor. May need watering in summer
- Peonies do not like being divided, although they can be moved if carefully done in the autumn
- Varieties to try include the pink Bowl of Beauty, Nymphe a pale pink and Karl Rosenfield a double red
